Mother & Baby Support Group

We’re so excited to partner with the Beaverton Resource Center to create a cozy gathering space for new parents and their little ones.

Think: real conversations, shared experiences, and a supportive circle as you move through the beautiful (and sometimes messy) early days of parenting.

Maureen Arizmendiz, IBCLC of Portland Milk Vibes, will be there to gently guide conversations and offer evidence-based lactation support—while holding space for all topics that come with caring for a baby.

Bring your baby, come as you are, and settle in. You might just leave with a full heart (and a new friend or two).

What to Expect at the Support Group?

  • We believe in the power of community—that raising a child was never meant to be done alone. Our intention is to help you build your village, connecting you with families navigating this same chapter.

  • Conversations are shaped by the needs of the group. Whether it’s navigating nighttime nursing or another aspect of early parenthood, participants are invited to share openly and learn from one another’s experiences. Often, voicing what we’re going through—and being met with understanding—can bring both clarity and a deep sense of connection.

  • Led by Maureen Arizmendiz, IBCLC, the intention is to help mothers feel empowered and confident in their own unique ability to care for and nurture their child. No two parents—or babies—are the same, and that individuality is something we truly celebrate.

Maureen brings a special passion for lactation and nutrition, which naturally weaves into her gentle, supportive, and evidence-based guidance.

  • We’ve created a comfortable, welcoming space where you can settle in with your baby—whether that means sitting, stretching out, or walking around as needed.

A baby scale will be available for those who wish to use it, including for weighted feeds to get a sense of milk intake.

Babies are, of course, not expected to be quiet—and that’s more than okay. This is a judgment-free space where you can parent freely, without worry about interruptions.

A bathroom is available onsite for your convenience.

  • "Maureen provided me with guidance every step of the way and it was evident that she was truly invested in me reaching my breastfeeding goals."

    -Audri

  • "Our session was relaxed and not rushed and she was lovely to talk with. She took the time to understand my concerns and find solutions."

    -Stephanie

  • "Maureen was just what we needed, right when we needed it. Definitely someone you want in your corner."

    -Sam

  • "I felt confident after talking to her and loved how she was so kind and calm always. Would absolutely recommend her!"

    -Alba

It all begins with community…

My passion for lactation began unexpectedly at a local hospital’s Community Breastfeeding Support Group. At the time, I was majoring in nutrition and looking for opportunities related to my field. What I discovered there changed the course of my career. I was deeply inspired by the strength of mothers working so hard to nourish their babies and quickly realized how instrumental both peer and professional support can be during this time.

As I continued my educational journey, I immersed myself in the field of lactation through coursework, shadowing lactation consultants, interning with WIC, and listening to the experiences of countless parents along the way. During this time, I began to envision a meaningful niche supporting the mother-baby dyad through both lactation care and perinatal nutrition education.

When I became pregnant with my first child, I committed fully to this path and set out to complete the formal education required to become a lactation consultant.

However, life brought an unexpected challenge. After my first child, I experienced secondary unexplained infertility and was unable to have another baby. This diagnosis rested heavily on my shoulders for years. I share this part of my story because, over time, it gave me a deeper understanding and compassion for parents navigating infertility. It is a journey no one asks to be part of.

Through this experience, I have had the privilege of connecting with many parents who have faced similar challenges. Supporting families who have endured infertility while welcoming their babies into the world is something I consider an incredible honor.

Today, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Master of Public Health. I am a Registered Dietitian and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I am passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based support to families during this remarkable and transformative time in their lives.
